Position description & primary responsibilities:

We are seeking a seasoned Director of Business Development with a strong industry network, focused on sales in preclinical chemistry, process development and scale-up. The ideal candidate will have over 14 years of BD experience in a CRO/CDMO environment, with demonstrated abilities in generating new business opportunities, conducting cold calls, and effectively closing deals in the small molecule space. This role requires a dynamic individual who can strategically drive business growth and sustain long-term client relationships.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute business development strategies tailored to market trends and to the company goals.
  • Leverage an extensive industry network to identify and secure new business opportunities, particularly in preclinical, RSM and scale-up projects.
  • Conduct cold calls and engage new prospects, converting initial contacts into business relationships.
  • Lead negotiations and close deals with new clients, ensuring profitable and sustainable contracts.
  • Maintain a strong market presence and enhance the company’s reputation by participating in industry conferences, networking events, and other professional gatherings.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure that client needs are met with the highest standards of service and technical expertise.
  • Regularly report on sales progress and forecast future sales volumes to align with the company's financial goals.
  • Meet assigned sales targets.

Qualifications:

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Chemistry. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 14 years of professional experience in a business development role within a CRO or CDMO, specifically dealing with preclinical stages in small scale, process development and scale-up of small molecules.
  • Proven track record of successfully closing deals and generating repeat business, supported by references.
  • Exceptional negotiation and sales skills, with the ability to engage and persuade high-level decision-makers.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel to meet business demands.
